Richmond Yacht Club benefits local charities  Chris Treadway Contra Costa Times  Posted: 10/20/2011 10:46:28 AM Updated: 10/20/2011 10:46:29 AM

The Richmond Yacht Club again reached out this year to four local charities with funds raised from events it held over three days in August.

The annual Taste of Richmond dinner and the two-day Richmond Riviera Regatta raised more than $28,000 that represents more of a lifeline than a windfall for the recipient programs at a time when need is increasing faster than donations.   MORE

The Richmond Yacht Club followed through on its commitment to assist local charities, presenting checks that represent the proceeds of its Richmond Riviera Regatta to four organizations Wednesday at a special membership dinner.
The regatta and related benefit events in August brought in $25,000 that was divvied up between the Bay Area Rescue Mission, the Richmond Emergency Food Pantry, Rubicon Programs and YES (Youth Enrichment Strategies).
"This check is going to go a long way to helping people in great need right here in Richmond," said John Anderson, executive director of the Bay Area Rescue Mission, adding that the funds will help provide a good portion of the 24,000 meals the mission will serve at its annual Thanksgiving banquet.

Richmond Riviera Regatta - Giving 2011

We call it the Riviera because we face south, and we're sheltered from San Francisco Bay fog in summer, plus we get our sunrises and sunsets over water. As gorgeous as it is, and even though our community has so many blessings, Richmond does have its share of needs. The Richmond Yacht Club has been part of the city for more than 75 years, a working man's sailing club going though its own ups and downs. When the Navy requisitioned the clubhouse during World War II, our temporary club was City Hall! These are better days for the Sailingest Club on the Bay, and we voted to give back to the city through a charity regatta. We want to "give where we live"...

The Richmond Riviera Regatta includes Sailing Races, a gala Friday night kickoff party fundraiser "A Taste of Richmond", and outstanding social events both days after the racing. All activities benefit the Richmond Riviera Fund, which is a zero overhead 501c3 recognized charity. 100% of our funds go to our chosen, vetted charities!
